Mathematics (6-12)

The
illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot
read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and
relearn.
The value of a problem is not so much coming up with
the answer as in the ideas and attempted ideas it forces
on the would be solver.
There is no branch of mathematics, however abstract,
which may not someday be applied to the phenomena of the
real world.

It is the goal of the Mathematics and Science departments of Deer Park ISD to instill in all students the knowledge and skills enumerated by the state of Texas in the TEKS. In order to achieve this goal, teachers and students will engage in both concrete and abstract learning activities and will apply mathematical and scientific topics in the context of real-world situations. Of equal importance is ensuring that all students become life-long learners, a necessity for success in the 21 st Century. For our children, learning to speak the language of mathematics and science with confidence is now as fundamental as learning to read. |
