         Mrs. Lemoine’s Message

                January 11, 2008

This week we will continue to focus on characters, setting, problem and solutions in our stories.  We will create characters to use in retelling the story. Students will be encouraged to use the words beginning, middle, and end or first, next, then, and last.   Have your child retell the stories that we have read in class each night. Although the concept of the story is the same, the animals change, as well as, their sequence in the stories.  Ask comprehension questions to help them form their thoughts into sentences.  This activity carries over into good writing skills. In math, continue to practice doubles facts such as
2 + 2, 3 + 3, and so on.  Practice simple addition and subtraction facts to 12. We are starting to talk more about money. Have your child identify the coins when you use them, such as: penny, nickel, dime, & quarter.

Spelling words:   green, need, sleep, nine, five, white, asked, into, little, me

Remember:  No school on Monday Jan. 21
           Report Cards on January 25th.

*Please remember to ask your child if they need batteries for their flashlights or new markers.

Remember to encourage your child to wash their hands, and to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough. The Flu has started going around. My son was diagnosed with it today.
