We have been learning all about dinosaurs this week. We read many dinosaur books, drew dinosaurs, wrote about dinosaurs, and even made some dinosaur food. The students listened to the book, A Dinosaur Named After Me, and then made up their own dinosaurs and wrote about them. They did a wonderful job! We hung them in the hall for all to see. We ended the week eating dinosaur food. We had fun making it, and even more fun eating it!

REMINDERS FOR NEXT WEEK:
Check Friday folders for MANY important notes and homework. Please be sure and return the following items on Monday, May 5:
* Self addressed stamped legal size envelope
* Permission slip for next weeks field trip to the post office and picnic in the park
* Leaves completed with names of family members
* Permission slip for visit to the Deer Park Public Library
End of Year Testing:
I will begin the end of year testing with each student next week. There will be no Guided Readers sent home; however, continue to read to your child and let them read to you when possible. Also, continue to work on the areas checked on the progress reports sent home last week.

REMEMBER…
Wednesday, April 30, is the last day to deposit money into your child’s lunch account. It is also the last day that students will be allowed to borrow money for lunch. Please check your child’s lunch account status and be sure that he or she has money for lunch for the remainder of the school year. It can be very upsetting to the children when they have to eat a peanut butter sandwich because they did not have lunch money.

Oh my! Time is passing so quickly. We are so busy learning and doing new things! This week we have been talking about zoo animals. The students wrote some wonderful letters to the zoo and we compiled them into a book. We read the book, Dear Zoo, and then the students drew pictures of zoo animals and wrote letters to accompany the pictures. They did a great job!
As we approach the end of the year, we have many exciting things planned, but we also will continue to prepare for first grade. Progress reports go home today, Friday, April 25. Please look over your child’s progress report and continue to address any areas checked. I know that this can be a very busy time of year with sports and extracurricular activities, but please continue to work on writing and reading each night. It really does make a difference!
Upcoming events:
* Visit to the Post Office and picnic in the park
* Bubble Day
* Visit to the Deer Park Public Library
* Kindergarten Graduation
Be watching for more information on each of these events. Like I said, we have a lot planned for this last month of school.

We learned all about plants this week. We each got the chance to plant lima beans and now we are caring for them. We have been watering them and making sure they get plenty of sunshine. We can’t wait to see them sprout!

Hello, everyone.
I hope you are finding our class blog enjoyable and helpful. Here is a little preview of what we will be learning about the week of April 7:
* We will begin learning basic addition and subtraction. Check next Friday’s work folder and review math facts with your child. We’re getting ready for first grade math!
* In science, we will be learning about insects. Do any of you like to raise butterflies? If so, we would love for you to share pictures with us. We will learn about butterflies, ladybugs, and bees.
* In language arts, we will be focusing on the bl- and br- blends at the beginning of words, long i vowel sound in words, and we are adding the words what and do to our list of sight words we should know. So when writing words or sentences at home for practice, keep these new additions in mind.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
* Be sure and return report card covers on Monday
* Also, we have library on Monday. Make sure all books are returned to school if they are not already.

* If your child can not tie his/her shoes, please help him/ her to learn to do so. They should be able to tie their shoes through out the day as they come untied.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP
Little authors are busy writing in our class. The students have been working hard on their personal stories during Writer’s Workshop. After weeks of developing their writing skills, students will “publish” their stories tomorrow. We will celebrate by having fourth graders come to hear our stories and enjoy a snack of goldfish and juice. We are very excited to share our masterpieces!
HOMEREADERS
I am very happy with the response to the Homereader Folder. The students seem to really enjoy taking the readers home and they are quick to return them. I know many of them are counting how many more books they need to read before reaping the reward of digging in the treasure box. I better stock up on treasures becuase there is a lot of reading taking place. Way to go!!
REPORT CARDS
The third nine weeks ends tomorrow, Friday, March 28. I am very pleased with the progress that many of the students have made this nine weeks. Report cards will go home next Friday, April 4, 2008.
KINDERGARTEN HOMEWORK
As we begin the last nine weeks of school, I’d like to remind each of you how important it is for the students to be reading and writing often. Students are encouraged to practice writing sight words, word families, and sentences. I will reward students with a free ticket and sticker each time they bring a list of at least 10 words or 2 sentences. Try to have your child write words that will challenge them.
