Symmetry Faces
After our reading test, we had a bit of extra time to squeeze in a fun art project. And guess what?… It was also math! We used two different colors of construction paper, folded them, and drew half a face on the top sheet. Putting all sheets together, we cut out the half face and when we opened it up, we had a whole face. The fold made a perfect line of symmetry. Symmetry is having the same things on both sides - like a mirror reflection. Next, we cut half a nose and mouth from the top sheet, flipped it to the other side and made a reflection! Cutting out the eyes and eyebrows was a bit more difficult, however everyone took the challenge. The eyes and eyebrows showed translations - it’s like the shapes were slid across the face. I guess that in math you can have lots of fun and learn at the same time. That is a coooool art project and the best part is that you can do it at home with everyday materials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that was sooo much fun. it hade alot of math in it even though it was just for fun. it had symmetry, and rotation, translations and more. we had alot of fun!!! : )

I loved doing the faces who new you could make some many things with reflections translation and lines of symmetry.:)

I think that this project teaches us mostly about symmetry,translations, and reflections. It’s so cool

My brain hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Just kiding but we have done alot of testing. I hope i got a good grade on my science benchmark maybe i got the same on my reading TAKS test!

I loved making the faces. They were alot of fun. Mine kinda messed up because it came out uneven, so I just drew out the missing things.
