Sharpening Computer Skills

Second graders are learning to use Microsoft Word. Many students already know how to make capital letters by using the shift key, but many are processing for the first time! We are currently writing a short paragraph about a fish who has a cat staring hungrily through his bowl. What will happen to the fish? Students have many great ideas and will be inputting them into their documents and saving their documents into their second grade folder.

Kindergarteners and First Graders are sharpening their mouse skills by practicing the click and drag technique. Control of their mouse is a crucial start, and creating circle art projects helps them practice that control. I hope every child made it home with their colorful computer generated projects!

    Hi Mrs. Corry,
I like your blog. I may use your kindergarten idea with my kiddo’s. Do you use paint and draw for the circle art projects? We are doing jumpstart spanish this week. We love doing whole class instruction using the calender to learn the days of the week. Also, we are learning colors.

    Hi Mrs. Schatzke,
I should have started my blog earlier in the school year as you did, but better late than never! My kindergarteners did great with the circle tool in Paint. After they made 5 or 6 overlapping cirlces, I had them click on the fill tool and fill in all of the different sections with different colors. They were really happy with how well their art projects turned out. I went around and typed in their names with the text tool. (That is a separate lesson in itself!)
Calendar activities sounds like a great idea! I can’t wait for our elementary computer teachers group to get together and share lessons!
    Thanks for your comment!
