First graders are learning about solids, liquids and gases. I made a PowerPoint slide with 9 pictures for the students to click and drag into the correct column according to its state of matter.

Kindergarteners at PWE have been making mini bear counting books using Microsoft PowerPoint. I set up a template with 6 pages that can be printed as a handout to make the mini book. These little books have helped them practice their skill of “click and drag.” It has also taught them about thumbnails and how to click on the page they would like to edit. Since the kindergarten teachers have been teaching about bears, hibernation, and counting, this activity has helped to reinforce those concepts.

First and second grade students made PowerPoint documents about cats. The first graders added a title and a picture of a cat. The second graders did the same, but also added an acrostic about cats. They printed their finished documents and took them home. CATS PowerPoint example page

Second graders are learning to use Microsoft Word. Many students already know how to make capital letters by using the shift key, but many are processing for the first time! We are currently writing a short paragraph about a fish who has a cat staring hungrily through his bowl. What will happen to the fish? Students have many great ideas and will be inputting them into their documents and saving their documents into their second grade folder.
Kindergarteners and First Graders are sharpening their mouse skills by practicing the click and drag technique. Control of their mouse is a crucial start, and creating circle art projects helps them practice that control. I hope every child made it home with their colorful computer generated projects!
