April 18th…it’s Friday! :)

April 18th, 2008 by rbeck

I hope you have a fun weekend. Be safe, wear your sunscreen. Some of you have been returning on Monday looking like Rudolph with a bright red nose. :)

Be ready to work hard and read next week. It is our last full week before TAKS. You are ready. Look in the mirror and tell yourself everyday how smart you are.

Love,

Mrs. Beck

April Fools!!

April 1st, 2008 by rbeck

You could have fooled me since I can’t believe it is already April. I have watched you all grow and learn this year. It is hard to believe you are almost 5th graders. Let’s work hard, have some fun, and enjoy the rest of the year.

Remember to read every night. Oh yeah, you can eat the elephant!! :)

Mrs. Beck

Master your math skills

January 24th, 2008 by rbeck

Check out the cool new math site we found. There are many great games. Remember to practice on “Snork’s Long Division” to reinforce the skills you are doing in class with Mr. Smart.

January 22-25

January 21st, 2008 by rbeck

It can’t almost be February! We hit the ground running upon returning from the holidays. The kids had 2 benchmarks. Awesome job! I had the opportunity to sit down and go over the things that are still stumping some of us. We will continue to read and work on our writing.

Major important: Read 30 minutes every night! Although we devote time to reading every day, some kids are able to read better at home where it is very quiet.

Kids: Comment on my blog. Let me know what you are reading. I hope to have some fun projects coming up centered around your interests. Be thinking…what is your favorite thing to do? Who are your heroes? What would you like to learn more about?

It is my bedtime…sweet dreams! I’ll see you tomorrow!

December…Wow!

December 4th, 2007 by rbeck

We are sledding downhill towards the Christmas holidays. This year is flying by. We have Skate with Santa this Thursday followed by a Science benchmark Friday.

 Study for spelling test Thursday.

Please bring snack and coffee filters if you can. Mr. Smart and Mrs. Beck are running low.

We will have pajama day on the 18th. Wear your pj’s and slippers. This is personally my FaVoRiTe day!! :)

Continue to bring food for the food drive if you can. Even if everyone only brings one item we can help so many people.

Have a great week. Book fair ends Friday morning.

Nov. 26-30

November 27th, 2007 by rbeck

Wow! Time is flying, and we have a busy week ahead of us. Here is a list to keep you on track:

  • Field trip note with $7.50 due Wednesday
  • Papa John’s night on Thursday with Dabbs Teachers and Staff delivering the pizza. All tips and 20% of the sales go back to Dabbs to spend on your kids!!!! We hope to see everyone during our first day as PaPa John’s delivery staff.  **You must tell them when you order that you are from Dabbs.
  • Field Trip Friday- Sack lunch with drink. Please label with name.
  • Continue to bring food drive items. It would be great if everyone could bring at least 1 item by Friday. If we could all bring 1 can or item each week for the next 3 weeks, we could help so many families for Christmas.
  • New web site:   www.freerice.com Play with your parents and increase your whole family’s vocabulary! While you play, you are donating rice to a charity. Check it out!

Have a great week!

Mrs. Beck

Magnify! What????

November 6th, 2007 by rbeck

Tell me what you learned about how to magnify your writing. What in the world does that mean?

Feeding the baby birds

October 17th, 2007 by rbeck

About 9:45 each morning little mouthes all around the room begin to chirp the word “snack.”  It is the perfect time for a snack, just before PE and right between breakfast and lunch.

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent snack so far. Our snack cabinet is almost bare, so if you are able to send a class snack we would really appreciate it. Cheap coffee filters for serving, crackers of any kind, cereal of any kind, whatever is easy and affordable. No cookies please. :)

Thank you! We love you!

October 15-19

October 17th, 2007 by rbeck

So sorry for the late post. After much thought, I have decided to use my blog to post my weekly information instead of schoolnotes.com, so everything will be in one place. :) This week we have a review rule for spelling. Ten sentences with one word each for homework. No baby sentences! :)

Today we had our first benchmark…wow! What an awesome bunch of kids we have. Everyone worked really hard.

We will continue to work on writers block for some. :) Talk to your kids about memories. List everything you can think of together. Make a list of “Remember when…”

It is hard for kids to come up with ideas when we write. As I told the kids today, you don’t have to go to Disney World to have a story to write about. You can write about everyday life. If you wrote a story about my kids and me trying to get ready and out the door in the morning, you would have a mini-series full of dramatic crisis!

Give them a hug, pat them on the back, and have a great evening. It was a long day.

Hey kids-

I am proud of each of you!

Love,

Mrs. Beck
