A Note About Talent Show!!!
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008Thanks to everyone who performed in our grade level talent shows. You all did a fantastic job, and we are looking forward to a great school-wide show next week! We explained to the kids our process for picking the school-wide acts, but I would like to post it here for parents to see. Please understand that this is one of the hardest jobs we have all year (just as with any teacher who must choose kids for special recognition and awards). We consider our school wide show as more of a “variety” show. The vast majority of kids sing or dance, and most of these choose “popular” songs that they hear on the radio (we had about 7 groups this year that used the same song!). We obviously have to choose only a few of these, even though all were well-prepared and well-presented. We look for different styles of music and dance to go along with the other types of acts (instrumentalists, karate demonstrations, skits, gymnastics, cheerleaders, etc.). Dance was a very difficult category this year. We went for variety: a modern dance, a ballet dancer, a Mexican Folk dance, a 50’s dance, and hip-hop (we even have 2 boys in this category, which is very rare!). I know some kids are disappointed, but we hope they will continue to have a desire to perform. Have a great summer!
