April

This month my classes are working on preparing for the Reading TAKS Test on April 30.

We have been reading The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog by John R. Erickson.   We investigated Hank’s website.  Here is a link you can use to get there quickly and easily if you want to check it out:  www.hankthecowdog.com

We are discussing the events which preceeded Texas’ war for independence from Mexico.

One day we took a field trip to the Outdoor Learning Center, where we learned about the water cycle.

If you have a comment to share about any of these activities, feel free to post them here.

Winter Holiday Break

October 27th, 2007 by pgoodman

We participated in many exciting activities before the Winter Holiday Break.

We  wrote books about the first day of school.  Then we walked over to Pre-K to share our books, help students write letters to Santa, and sing songs with them.

We learned about the Navy and submarines.  We used this new knowledge to write e-mails  to a sailor serving on a submarine in the Western Pacific Ocean.  These e-mails contained wishes for a happy holiday season, along with questions about living on a submarine.

The students also decorated an ornament and wrote a description.  Given the description, students had to match the ornament to the description.

Another fun activity we participated in required us to describe our favorite candy.  Other students had to guess which type of candy was being described.

We also read Christmas Spurs by Bill Wallace.

As you can see, the days before the holidays were fun and hectic.  I hope everyone is well rested and ready to return on Thursday.  There will be a Writing Benchmark the following week, so we will be preparing to do our best.
