Ths morning we visited the Outdoor Learning Center.  Mrs. Blair had many hands on activities for us to do.  We learned how to measure air, soil, and water temperatures, catch insects in a big net, analyze soil (in many different ways), and observe nature.  We identified producers, consumers, and decomposers.  We also took a few minutes to come up with some things we wondered about, and “what if” ideas.  All the kids really enjoyed themselves and certainly understand more deeply all the things they’ve learned in Mr. Rosas’ class.  Here are some pictures of our morning.

Writing News!

October 24th, 2007 by Mrs. Stone

We are really starting to write a lot.  Ask your student about “showing” not telling.  It’s how we describe feelings, etc. by using examples instead of the stating the emotion.  For example,  instead of writing ” I was tired”, we’ve learned how to write “my legs shook like leaves in the tree after I ran 16 laps in P.E.”  To really impress your student, ask them to use an omonatopeia word in their description.  This is a word that sounds like what it is.  The tiny kitten mewed for its mama.  Ding, ding, ding went Mrs. Stone’s timer.   We are having tons of fun with these!   We have so many wonderful authors!  See you soon!  Mrs. Stone
