Spelling Suggestions for Students
Sunday, August 31st, 2008
Students receive words every Friday for those needing a head start.
*The more you do with the words, the more you will remember them.
- Write words in cursive and print.
- Say and spell the words orally as you write them.
- Type your words on the computer three times each as you say and spell them aloud.
- Spell the words orally in a tape recorder and listen to them in the car and in your room all week.
- Make flashcards and then trace with your finger as you spell and say them orally.
- Write your words with magnetic letters on the refrigerator.
- Make a spelling art project by writing the words you are having trouble with on paper and then glue beans, buttons, or other objects to form the letters.
- Make a spelling word search on the computer and then find the words.
- Have your parents join spellingtime.com for the year. This site allows you to type in your words and activities to practice your spelling words each week.
- Make a spelling cheer or rap with words you have trouble with.
- Have your parents type 3 choices for your spelling words and you circle the correct spelling.
- Have parents type a paragraph or sentences with the words and misspell all your spelling words. Then you find the misspelled words and write them correctly.
- Take a written practice test. Have someone dictate the words and you write them correctly. Continue to study all the words you miss.
Try one activity each night and you will be well prepared for your test on Thursday.
