How many of you have ever invited a friend over to your house? You probably had a good time, right? Well, I had a friend show up unexpectedly…here’s my story!

Last night, while sleeping, I started feeling itchy. I thought it was my stem wrapping around the window. A few minutes later I started to feel something tickling me. I looked and it was what I call a “friend of a friend”. I know him, but I dont really hang out with him. His name is Lil Yellow Bug with Black Spots. (I know, long name. His parents couldnt agree on a name) He was rummaging through my “refrigerator”, a.k.a. leaves, and eating and eating and eating! How rude! I finally sent him to my friend Cella Ree’s house. She has lots of food in her “refrigerator”.

January 10th, 2008 by ksimons

dsc00027.JPGyes, friends the day has come when i must say good-bye to my beloved bean apartment. i have grown so much, that i need a larger home dsc00031.JPGto accomodate my continually growing roots. i will miss my small, old, home!

i love, and you will too, my new home. it looks sorta retro on the outside. it is cylinder and has a metallic look on the outside. i’m including two pics…one right before i moved in and the other i just took today! in the second pic you will notice my stem is twisting up the window. why do you think i am doing that? let ms. simons know and you will get some extra credit points!

i’ve gotta run. i’m having someone install a new ceiling fan!

Peanut Day!

November 13th, 2007 by ksimons

On Friday, November 16, we are making peanut butter! We will also choose a peanut, write ten characteristics about it, put it in a pile, and then try to identify our peanut from the entire pile! After our search, we will plant the peanut and in tweleve short weeks…we should have a peanut plant! Friday is sure to be an exciting day…make sure you come to school.

What Are Q-TIPS?

November 13th, 2007 by ksimons

Q-TIPS is a step-by-step reading strategy we are asking all students to use on their homework, CPR’s, and Benchmarks. Hopefully they will continue to use the strategy on the Science TAKS Test in April. Q-TIPS asks students to write down a lot of the thinking they are doing inside their brain. Our hope is the students will “show” us how they choose their answer through written expression. Then we, as teachers, can clear up misunderstanding the students may have with a particular objective.

I cant wait to see their fascinating lessons! Well, I should go…the cable man is here. A. Bean cannot live without cable. And yes, I am getting DVR!! Later!!

Benchmark Tips

November 9th, 2007 by ksimons
  1. Make sure your child comes to school every day.  If they miss school, they are missing important instruction.
  2. Review science terms daily and help your child practice measuring things.  They should know length, weight/mass, volume and temperature.
  3. Expose your child to many science-related activities…see Blogroll for ideas.
  4. Use the Q-TIPS strategy everytime.

In just three short weeks, I have changed a lot since my baby picture!  Like any “tween”, my body is changing and I am growing roots. As soon as my plant sprouts I am moving out! I’ve got a great cup of soil picked out with a fabulous view of the 5th grade hallway. I cant wait to move in and decorate…this weekend I am picking out a new couch!
