May 12-16- Wave Pool!!

May 12th, 2008 by kbox

What’s up bloggers? This Wednesday we are scheduled to visit the Wave Pool! Yee-haw!! We are SO excited, and our hard-working third-graders have totally earned this day of fun! But in order to go to the wave pool everyone must turn in a signed permission slip. Verbal permission will not be accepted, so if you have not turned it in, make sure you do that ASAP! Also, remember to clean out your backpack Tuesday night boys and girls, so that you can fill it with things that you’ll need at the Wave Pool.  I would suggest: sunscreen, sunglasses, swimming goggles (do not bring a face mask, these are not allowed at the Wave Pool), a towel, a snack, money for a snack (if you want),  and definitely bring a big sack lunch and a drink!! Also anyone who has any ear issues might want to talk to their parents about bringing ear drops, such as Swim Ear. When you come to school on Wednesday you may wear a bathing suit, but make sure you wear it under your clothes! Also you may wear swimming shoes or flip-flops. Do not wear cut-offs! Students will wear their TAKS Spirit Shirts over their bathing suits. If parents want to attend they must arrange their own transportation and pay the admission fee, which is $5.00. Students will not have to pay admission. Parents, please e-mail me at kbox@dpisd.org if you are planning to come with us!

Guess what guys and girls? The last third grade benchmark test of the year is on Tuesday! We are taking our science benchmark, so make sure that you are well-rested on Tuesday and that you have eaten a good breakfast. Good luck to all third-graders, we know that you will do a wonderful job!

This week in class we are going to continue comparing country schoolhouses and modern city schools. We are also going to begin studying economics. And we are going to continue our discussion of the writing process and start revising and editing our stories! And last but not least, we are going to continue working on Charlotte’s Web. And if we have great behavior all week we will have a fabulous popcorn party on Friday!!

Only a few weeks of school left! Let’s make them count! See ya later bloggers!

May 5-May 9- Deer Park Community Field Trip

May 5th, 2008 by kbox

Happy Cinco De Mayo Bloggers! This week we are going on a field trip around the community of Deer Park! Of course, in order to go with us, you must turn in a signed permission slip by Thursday, and you should bring a sack lunch and a drink. Also, we are accepting permission slips for the trip to the Wave Pool next week, so make sure you turn those in as well! Don’t forget as well that you can now order school supplies, and I would suggest getting those orders in ASAP!

Tuesday is our writing benchmark test, so I want all third graders to make sure that they get plenty of rest on Monday night and eat a good breakfast on Tuesday morning. We will also have to be super quiet in the classroom on Tuesday so that we don’t disturb students who are taking the test. I know that you will do a fantastic job!

This week in class we will continue reading Charlotte’s Web and do some fun writing activities to map out this wonderful story! We will also continue working on our writing projects. In Social Studies we will  discuss the cultural significance of Cinco De Mayo and look at the differences between a modern elementary school and a country school house! We will also be discussing proper hygiene. Don’t forget to read your AR book for 30 minutes every night! Get those points! This Friday will be our last AR Store!

Have an awesome week bloggers!

April 28-May 2 - Good Luck 3rd Graders!!

April 28th, 2008 by kbox

Hey third graders, this is the week of the math TAKS test! So I want everyone to please do these things:

1) On Monday night, go to bed early!! No staying up late that night! Get plenty of sleep so you will be well rested on Tuesday.

2) On Tuesday morning eat a good breakfast. Your body needs fuel to keep it going, and food is that fuel. Make sure your body and mind are well fueled so that you can concentrate on the test.

3) On Tuesday morning make sure that you get to school on time! We don’t want you to be rushed and stressed on the morning of the test, so make sure that you wake up on time and get to school by 7:30-7:45 AM.

4) Do your best. Work hard, concentrate, and do your best work. We all know that you will do a terrific job!

Do all of these things and I know that you will be successful! I am rooting for all of you! And of course good luck to all of the other students at DPE who are taking the TAKS test! I just know that everyone is going to do a fantastic job!

In class this week we are going to continue reading Charlotte’s Web and prepare for the writing benchmark test. We are also going to discuss the Great Mail Race, which we will be participating in next week.  Remember to do your handwriting homework and read your AR book for 30 minutes every night!

OK, time for some fun! This week on Thursday, May 1, we will be going on a field trip to Lubrizol. In order to come with us, every student must turn in a signed permission slip by Wednesday. If you do not turn it in, you cannot go. So please do that ASAP! Also, we will be eating lunch at the park, so every student must bring a sack lunch and a drink. We will also be doing Game Day on Friday, which will be so much fun! Students may bring games to play and we will play them in class. No electronic games (i.e.: Nintendo DS, Sony PSP), bring games that you can play with other people.

Have a great week bloggers!
