OK. We’re on the downhill slide after these two modules! Get them finished and it’s all gravy from here on out!

In Module 4 we discussed the student sample project or as Intel likes to call it: “evidence of student learning”. It was suggested that you storyboard your project before you start working on it. Remember your student sample project can be a presentation (created in PowerPoint), a publication (created in Publisher), a blog or a wiki - your choice. If you would like to view sample student projects, see pages 4.03 and 4.04. Remember to think about how to work 21st Century Skills in throughout the project. You should also revisit the Unit Plan filling in any blanks and answer the questions on page 4.16 as you blog this week.

In Module 5 we talked about the rubric for your student sample project, along with the other assessment pieces. If you need to view the assessment plans for ideas, see pages 5.06, 5.11 and 5.12. You need to create the rubric for your student sample project and also gather or create the other 4 assessment tools for your unit. If you would like to create your own rubric, you might want to check out Rubistar. After all this is done, you need to revisit the Unit Plan, filling in any remaining blanks and also blog for this module, using the prompts on page 5.17.

So, for next week, you should have completed the following: (see page 1.07 for reference)

Unit Plan (have as much of it filled out as possible)

Works Cited (don’t forget to be gathering any internet sites that you have incorporated into your project)

Gauging Student Needs Presentation (one of your assessment pieces)

Student Sample Project aka “evidence of student learning”

Student Sample Project Rubric (one of your assessment pieces)

Other Assessments (at least 4 more)

Blogging for each module (1-5)

WHEW!!! It’s all downhill from here - I promise! Only a couple more meetings and we’re done! See you next Tuesday!

Hopefully the sharing of your Gauging Student Needs presentations was helpful. We looked at how Wikis work and then went through the presentation and discussion on copyright and citing sources. Don’t forget those resources are available to you on your class CD to use with your classes. There’s also the valuable information and templates for evaluating web sites.

If you’re worried about copyright, don’t forget about using the resources of Creative Commons with your students and the various Creative Commons licenses for use.

You should have started a Works Cited page. We hope you finally managed to get into Google Docs to complete your information. It seems the changeover to the new filter system trapped some of your email invitations to join that site. However, you are listed as one of the collaborators so you should be able to register (using your school district email) for a free Google account and see that document when you log in.

For next week:

Know what your actual project will be. Look over some of the sample projects on the CD and the Intel website for some ideas and helpful hints on how to design projects.

Think about the requirements you want to see displayed in the student project. These will help you develop your rubric.

Get caught up on anything you are behind on.

Don’t forget to blog.

In Module 2, we signed up for a social bookmarking account and learned how to use it.

We opened the Unit Plan Template that was previously saved in our Portfolios. We found out where to find the TEKS on our curriculum resource CD so that they can be copied and pasted into the Unit Plan.

After a discussion on Curriculum-Framing Questions, everyone participated in a brainstorming activity.

We worked on developing our Essential, Unit and Content questions, along with starting to put objectives into our Unit Plan.

We viewed some presentations from the fall class on Gauging Student Needs. We talked about storyboarding the presentations and what they would involve.

We reviewed the blogging questions for Module 2.

Due for next Tuesday (February 26)
*Flesh out your Essential, Unit and Content Questions and put them on the Unit Plan.
*Copy and paste the TEKS onto your Unit Plan.
*Work on the Assessment Timeline on the Unit Plan and find at least 2 assessments for each section (pre-assessment, assessment during the project, and post-assessment). Use the resources found on the Intel site. See page 2.14 for Intel site address.
*Complete the Gauging Student Needs Presentation.
*Blog for Module 2 (see page 2.24 for questions to blog on)
*Fill out any blanks on the Unit Plan that can be completed.

One main piece of work is the Unit Plan Template which you will add to and revise continually as we progress through the course. We looked at the Portfolio Rubric and some sample Unit Portfolios.

Participant teachers (that’s you) signed up for blogs in order to reflect on their learning after each module.

For the next class, we’d like for you to have done some serious thinking about what topic you will use for your unit. Make sure you have blogged on the questions on page 1.30 in your book.
