English II: Summer Reading Blogging

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Welcome to your summer reading blog!  This site is a place for you to discuss, comment, or ask questions about the two books assigned to English II students  for summer reading.  If you do read one or both, you will be tested during the first week of school

One of the differences in the program this year is that summer reading is NOT REQUIRED. Yes, you read it right.  Not required…

But before you stop howling with joy, please consider the following:

TOP TEN REASONS TO CONSIDER SUMMER READING

10. Makes you look smarter… a guy reading a book over a frappacino at Starbucks has been known to be a real chick magnet!

9. Gives you something important to do when your mother wants you to clean up your room…

8. Helps you to become a more succesful student by increasing your reading stamina, comprehension, vocabulary development and knowledge of world history.  Wow, all that from reading one book!

7.Your mother will be so proud!

6.  Your teacher will think you are an awesome student- and it’s only the first week of school!

5.  You may help write the questions for the test on the book (so I bet you will know the answer)!

4.  By improving your reading skills, you should ace the TAKS test!!!

3.  You may actually learn about a world you never knew existed, but did….

2.  Passing a test the first week of school on your summer reading book will get you 5 points on your six weeks average.

 AND……

#1.  You can use your five points for any six weeks- so if you have a busy football or basketball season or end up getting a job, you can use the points when you think you will most need them.
